You will likely raise some eyebrows in most churches if you say God is pro-choice. I don’t think I offended anyone when, in a recent sermon, I made that very point. God is pro-choice. Please excuse my play on words but in Joshua 24:15 we read, "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD,choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (NKJV)
God gives us our own free choice but we are responsible to Him for the decisions we make. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” Galatians 6:7-8 (NKJV)
God’s will matters and what He is against should influence our choices. Consider for example Proverbs 6:16-19, “ These six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.” (NKJV) Again, it is our choice to make.But what God hates so should we.
If you have read this far, I trust you hear me say God is not pro-choice in the way it is used by our culture. God is Pro-Life. Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”(NKJV) "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (NKJV)
God takes no pleasure in the misery of sinners. He prefers that all should come to repentance (2 Peter3:9). It’s our choice. There will be no unwilling participants in heaven.
